This place is worth a visit. At a cost of Kshs 100 (about $1.25 or <£1.00) for locals and Kshs 400.00 ($3.50 or <£ 3.00) is cheap by any standards. This place is fabulous for resting and outing for families and individuals. I would certainly recommend this place for courting couples for a day out and picnics. It has large trees for shade and several resting areas.
The only thing missing is a restaurant to cater for visitors. The kiosk is poorly stocked. So remember to bring some food with you. Soft drinks and water are available in the kiosk plus biscuits and a few supplies.
KIS has very clean toilets with toiletries but ladies remember your sanitary towels if you need them as they are not sold at the kiosk. Otherwise a very clean area.
As for the wildlife there are Impalas (and several other animals). This herd of Impalas look healthy. There is a large hyghrem of about 50 females and foals with single Male. And a group of bachelor groups in several small groups.
There are buffaloes that are kept in a secure chain linked fence, there are hyenas, Lions, Monkeys, Cheaters and Baboons all in secure fenced compartments for individual species.
There are several Zebras (I saw 4 adult Zebras on my visit). There are several varieties of birds ranging from Bald eagles(Rabala), African robin (Hundhwe), Hammerkop (Onyinjo) to crows (agak) e.t.c. The best time for birding is early in the morning from 7.30am till 10.00 and again later in the evening from 5.00 till 6.30 pm.
Hammerkop (Onyinjo)
Male Impala
Remember not to feed any of the wild life please. This place is worth every second and cent spent. Have a nice visit. Thanks for reading this.
